The reason for not wanting to live is varied but the bottom line is, no matter what the circumstances, all of them had given up hope. A few may be revenge - ie if I kill myself then they will suffer for the rest of their lives etc. Obviously this person is not, at that moment, colouring with a full box of crayons! Others cry our for help by 'little suicide' attempts and this is what it is - a cry for help.If people just had people to listen to them then many problems would not worsen. People feel isolated and alone. Worse if someone has nagged or controlled them and they have no self esteem. They think that they cannot do or achieve anything without the abusive partner. It is all very complicated,
With sickness, then many people feel that it is time to move on from this life. with others it is just a relief from pain they crave. Your Mom had given up hope Dawn, and wanted escape from the pain she was in. This is normal.
What is horrible is the devastation and havoc they create in their families and friends by taking their own lives. People who are left do not easily recover from the scars. It is all terribly comlicated.
